Rolex Yacht-Master
In 1992, Rolex introduced a nautical watch named the Yacht-Master. However, unlike the Submariner, the Yacht-Master was not a tool watch for diving but a luxury watch for boating. More specifically, it was made for yachting so it had to have a luxurious but sportive look. As many say, Rolex achieved this by adjusting a Submariner; bigger hands, bigger markers, smoother edges and a solid bezel with an engraved inlay. The first reference was the 16628, an 18 k yellow-gold wrist watch with a case diameter of 40 mm, a white dial, black hour markers and the caliber 3135 (as was used for the Submariner and Sea-Dweller). In 1994, Rolex introduced a midsize and lady size version. In 1999 the brand presented the steel/platinum version (ref. 16622), which instantly became a success.
