Omega Speed master Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary 310.32.42.50.02.001
In 1970, OMEGA received the prestigious “Silver Snoopy Award” from NASA astronauts. The award recognized OMEGA’s unique contributions to space exploration and the Speed master’s role in saving Apollo 13. Now, 50 years later, a special watch has been created to commemorate the occasion.
On the NAIAD LOCK case back, the sapphire crystal has been decorated with an image of the far side of the Moon, using micro structured metallization. An animated Snoopy in his Command and Service Module (CSM) is displayed on a magic hand, which rotates when the chronograph function is used. Behind it, a disk of the Earth rotates once a minute, in sync with the small second hand of the clock.
In addition to the black engravings on the case back in honor of OMEGA’s Apollo 13 and Silver Snoopy Award, there is also a blue [ZrO2] ceramic bezel ring with a white enamel tachy meter scale. The non-limited edition watch incorporates the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 3861 movement and comes in a special presentation box.
Snoopy was chosen as NASA’s mascot in the 1960 s, to act as a security guard dog during spaceflight missions.
SNOOPY IN ORBIT: On the case back, Snoopy appears inside his Command and Service Module (CSM) on a magic needle. When using the chronograph seconds hand, Snoopy takes a trip around the far side of the Moon, which has been decorated in the sapphire crystal, using a unique micro structured metallization. There is also a disk of the Earth, which rotates once a minute, in sync with the small second hand of the clock.
The 42mm stainless steel case is presented on a blue nylon fabric strap, which reproduces the Apollo 13 mission trajectory on the engraved lining. The silver dial has blue P V D hour markers and hands – the latter finished at an angle – as well as a silver Snoopy medallion engraved on the blue sub-dial at 9 o’clock.
